In honor of the Allegheny Trail's 50th anniversary in 2024, I've created a hand-painted watercolor map to celebrate West Virginia's longest hiking trail.
This 11x14 inch art print features all 311 miles of the Allegheny Trail, along with iconic locations along the way. Seven illustrated vignettes highlight Cheat Canyon, Blackwater Falls, Guadineer Knob, the Thorny Mountain Fire Tower, Cass Scenic Railroad, Green Bank Observatory, and Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory. The map also showcases flora and fauna that make their home along the trail: the Appalachian cottontail, Virginia big-eared bat, Cheat Mountain salamander, morel mushrooms, pink lady's slipper orchid, and wild ramp.
Created in West Virginia on richly textured, watercolor-like paper with vibrant inks.
Hello! I’m Rosalie.
I’m an illustrator specializing in creating captivating hand-rendered visuals relating to the natural world.
I use illustration to honor the places and creatures that often go unnoticed. My goal is to remind viewers of the amazing intricacy of our planet. I hope that after seeing my work, people will spend a few more minutes scouring the forest floor for tiny treasures on their next adventure into the woods.
Another passion of mine is creating illustrations that break down educational and scientific information in a way that is engaging to a broader audience. I want to make learning accessible to work toward a deeper collective understanding of how the earth works.
I am also an educator. So far, I’ve enjoyed teaching field sketching, watercolor illustration & outdoor observation workshops in schools, national parks, and REI stores.
